Hello fellow outdoor enthusiasts;
I have been opening this newsletter for the past couple of decades with good news of our past years accomplishments, and this year is no different. Our fund raisers as always , are successful. We have money in the bank, which eases the financial worries all organizations endure. One of our fundraisers that I would like to highlight is one that continues with very little membership involvement. That is our brass collection depot. This asset was overlooked for many years, relying on members and non members to pick it up. Well, there was money being tossed in the garbage, or harvested by those that did the work. And that worked ok. The people that cleaned up the brass also emptied the garbage containers and swept up the floor so we had mutually rewarding relationship. However, it was brought to our attention that there was “gold in them thar hills”. Lynne Burnham created this fundraiser that now brings in over $1000 per year for our organization. When using the range, please deposit your spent brass in the bin. The range rules state that all brass left on premise is property of the club, and it has turned into

an annual windfall. We seem to be constantly striving to do projects that take a lot of manpower, and there is fun in numbers don't get me wrong, but if you get an idea that saves us or makes us money, year after year, thats as good as it gets.

Two $1000 scholarships are to be awarded this spring. Both are going to students from Baraboo High who submitted wonderful essays and credentials. Thanks to all that applied and we wish we could give each of you our financial support.

The summer Sporting clays shoot got under way on April 12th and will carry on every other Sunday throughout the season. Come on out and support Charles’ hard work and dedication to this FUNdraiser while honing your hunting skills.

Spring clean up is scheduled for April 25th. “Many hands make for light work” so join us if you
can wield a rake or wheelbarrow.

The Range is constantly in use. Our safety record is undeniable. I am aware of zero accidental injuries due to firearms involved at our facility. The evidence of an unintended discharge are obvious by the few pocks in the concrete so we must be always vigilant in our handling of these “weapons”, which is what they become when handled carelessly. The DNR’s Hunter Safety Program, which we have been providing for the last quarter century, has all but eliminated shooting related injuries and we are proud of our instructors who dedicate their time and expertise to the safety of our participants.

The annual Picnic is scheduled on the 2nd of August, 12:00 -4:00. Bring a dish to pass or a small donation at the door. We hope to see you there. Our next Hunter Safety class will Register on Aug. 10th and begin on Aug. 24th. All of our “doings“ are posted on the Webb page. Glance at that on occasion and find out what we are up to concerning range closings, Hunter Ed. schedule, The Sporting Clays schedule, Hunter Nite Out, and other interesting things. Please join us for our monthly meetings on the second Monday of each month, 7:00 pm. “No short story” Lew runs a very organized meeting. We are usually at the bar enjoying a little snack and beverage by 8:45.

Enjoy and promote the Great Outdoors! Regards, Mike Koch ( Board of Directors)
